On average, people spend 8 hours a day being inactive. Being inactive is associated with the development of chronic illness, including heart disease, diabetes, chronic pain, osteoporosis and obesity. Taking part in moderate to vigorous physical activity on a regular basis and reducing the amount of time you are sitting will help in eliminating these issues.

Some tips to help:

- Take regular breaks from sitting - get up and stand in TV ad breaks or set a time interval to make yourself get up. Try eating lunch standing or going for a walk at snack and lunch.

- Influence social behavior - set a walking meeting, try using a standing desk, tell people about the dangers of sitting

- When we need to sit, focus on good posture to reduce risk of pain syndromes, try sitting on something wobbly, like a fit ball. You use more energy to maintain balance and its great for keeping posture and strengthening that core!!

- Move your body while sitting if this is your only option - wiggle you toes, shake your hands, try forward and backward shoulder rolls.

- Massage is great for posture, I can help to alleviate those tight muscles that are causing pain
